Creating Your Own Path In Life!

Published by mpume on

I hope I speak for the majority of us out there if not everyone that we all want to live a life that we love and enjoy,  a life that is peculiar to us and feels right. But creating your own path is not always easy, especially if that journey is something not familiar with a lot of people.

Because the system we are brought into dictates that we do things in a certain way, most of us believe that that’s how things should be, and often this belief is at the expense of our own happiness.  A big part of growing up is simply learning to do what others are doing in order to fit in with family, friends, and society at large. But for many people, especially if you are a career driven individual, and for entrepreneurs, there are many benefits to taking a slightly different approach to life.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that you have to necessarily abandon what works for everyone even if there is no need. Doing new things is part of your ingredients to success in your life, most successful entrepreneurs out there didn’t follow a script,  they found a different way to approach a problem and managed to create a better solution than anyone else before them.

Just because my path is different, does not mean that I’m lost!

You can make your own life whatever you want it to be and not follow what others believe to be normal.

When you start your journey of creating your own path in life, you may feel lost. You may not really even know what you want to create, just that you want something different, and it may feel like a crooked path.

What we need to understand is that there is no particular formula to success, you have to create your own path to success, remember success is subjective, what brings you fulfilment is what success is to you and may be different from the other person.

Stepping out of your Comfort Zone!

The Comfort Zone is defined as a “behavioural space where your activities and behaviours fit a routine and pattern that minimises stress and risk”.  In our comfort zone, there is a sense of familiarity, security, and certainty. And when we have to step outside of our place of familiarity, we are taking a risk, and opening ourselves up to the possibility of stress and emotional strain. Because we are not quite certain of what lies ahead, we become anxious. While staying in your comfort zone can result in consistent, steady performance, stepping out of your comfort zone into a new and challenging environment can create conditions for even better rewards.

Why we struggle to get out of our Place of Comfort.

It is no surprise that along with leaving the comfort zone, also comes change, the one thing most of us are afraid of, “unfortunately” we cannot avoid change, it is part of life whether we like it or not, and it has a significant impact on our lives. What follows are some of the most common reactions to change:

Making excuses– Just when you are close to making the leap out of your comfort zone, instead of taking that leap, you pull back saying, “Not today, maybe tomorrow”.
Lack of self-confidence – The only way to develop self-confidence is to prove to yourself that you can act in the face of your fear. But instead of acting, we would rather remain in our comfort zone.

Opinions of others – The person whose opinion should matter the most is not, other people’s opinion, but your opinion because it is your life, right? And yet we always worry about what the next person will think or say about us.

Why it’s important to get out of your Comfort Zone to find your own path.

There is no better way to grow – The only way we all grow is to get out of the nest and explore what is out there. The experiences are great teachers of life. There’s no better teacher of life than the diverse experiences we go through.

It will boost your self-confidence – Moving out of the familiar always raises up your confidence levels. When you able to do something by yourself, no matter how small it may be, it gives you courage to go another step next time.

New challenges and experiences rewire your brain –  Research shows that our brain benefits a lot when it is challenged . When your brain is rewired it means that it is transformed to be more adaptable, stronger, and healthier.

You develop resilience – You become more and better prepared for all of life’s challenges when you have gone out and had different experiences.  You become a well-rounded human being who is able to endure difficulty situations without really crumbling down.

New perspective – As you step out of your comfort zone, you discover new opportunities that you could not see because they were shadowed by your own feelings of insecurity.  Nothing is a frustrating and limiting as having a single sided view of things, we all need fresh “eyes” because as humans we are progressive in nature, we are always evolving, therefore new perspective on things helps us look at life with a different and better approach.

Perspectives and approaches on how to create your own path.

Trust your intuition – Even if the end seems uncertain and unclear, your feelings will show you the right way because they are there to guide you in creating your way. Always follow your inner voice, it is your compass.

Believe in your vision – Even when nobody else does believe in yourself and charge forward. Many great women and men who are successful in their different spheres of life, had to go against the grain and firmly believed in what they envisioned their life to be.

Build a strong foundation – Mentally, emotionally and financially. Part of creating your own path means facing more uncertainty and risk. Ensure that you are prepared to go on this journey fully prepared. If you are not fully prepared, its very easy for you to give up when things start to get difficult along the way, just ,make sure you have some plan in place before you embark on your journey.

Have a safety circle – Do not be mistaken, while creating your own path, you will most certainly face many challenges because creating your own path is easy, reach out to others for support, especially those who have traveled that road before.  Have a Mentor to help you along.

Don’t give up – Of course, things will get hard and sometimes really complicated. There will be times you will feel like not pursuing that dream, don’t give up. Keep at it.

Take care of your health – Especially your mental health. It is very important that you take care of your health whenever needed.Take a break if you have to and come jump back on your wagon again and pursue your dreams.

Conclusion

Don’t let your fears, prejudices, insecurities keep you out of your way, it is in your hands to shape your life as you wish. When you are charting your own path, embrace where you are in your journey , so that you are able to move forward with your vision.  Life is about creating your own path, about making the journey your own, and defining success and happiness in your own words. Don’t be afraid to reach out to the people who have walked the path before you, there is someone who is always willing to share their knowledge and experiences with you. Live your life with intention and live it with a purpose. Life is about making an impact and making a difference. You have to live for you and do what it means to be you. Whatever your path looks like and wherever it takes you, enjoy the journey and learn from those whose paths you cross.
